Character Logos
Character logos can be a very powerful way to brand your business and stand out in the minds of your customers and the community in general. The effective character logo associates your product with a trusted and well-known character that comes to represent not just the brand but the company and the products as well.
The reason character logos, also called mascot logos, work so well is that they are almost perfectly tailored for meeting the three main goals of any logo.

First advertising of any sort is essentially a battle for attention. If you cannot capture your target audience’s attention you cannot sell to them. Your character logo should be attention grabbing. It should be a character that draws people in to look at it.

If your logo is a series of circles arraigned in a pattern, it can develop a recognizable pattern, and it can brand your business, but it will require more effort than using a character will.
The third thing your logo must do is reinforce the quality and value of your company. Because a character logo can be recognized as a personality on its own, you can express these values and qualities through the character. The character can even speak to your customers in radio and TV advertising. You can also have a character logo change position, do different things at different times, and still be recognizable as your logo. A general shape type logo usually cannot be modified in any way and still be recognizable.
What Kind of Character Logo?
There are many kinds of character logos to choose from. Most people when thinking of a character logo instantly think of a cartoon. Tony the Tiger is one of the most recognizable mascot logos out there. Snap, Crackle and Pop are likewise famous character logos and all three of them together represent the same product.
Character logos are not limited to animation or cartoon drawings though. Mrs. Buttersworth stepped off of the printed page and became the mascot and the actual packaging for the product as well. Every time you use the product you are holding a real life physical version of the character logo that represents the product you are using.
Real life people can be character logos as well. Everyone recognizes Col. Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken. He’s not just a series of clever drawings of an old Southern gentleman; he was a real life Southern gentleman and the founder of the company. If you have a unique look or personality, you could just serve as your own company mascot.
Today there are even more options available through advanced computer technology. Geico uses a video-realistic computer generated gecko lizard to represent the company. The Geico Gecko has become the company’s logo.
